[:1]It confuses me. I see "spies" and "sappers" as very distinct professions. Assuming @Diablo didn't misspeak, and isn't operating under confusion about what a spy or a sapper are, my only combining theory is that spy means the sentry is hidden/secret/not noticed by monsters, until it's finished its sapper behavior, i.e. built up some kind of defensive object. So like it's a gun turret or something that draws the enemy and can deal damage, but it's not approached by demons until its active?
That is, admittedly, an improbable stretch of meaning, and unlikely to be what @Diablo meant. But like I said, the original tweet confused me.
Update: A comment on the main page news item explains it:

“A spy would sap” is a reference to Valve’s Team Fortress 2. Spies sap Engineer-built sentry turrets. So in other words, they’re implying that the sentry is something that shoots baddies automatically.
I like my interpretation better. The DH would benefit more from a tank, even if it's a stationary object, than she would from a gun turret. Something to draw monsters and give her free shots at them. Though I suppose a turret that shot and drew enemies would be pretty useful.|||Hehe, Flux' whole "sapping" confusion/ideas made me think...
It'd be amazing if this Sentry(or at least one of the DH's toys) were similar to good ol' Spider Mines from Starcraft...
You place the mine on the ground, which stays stationary there... Until an enemy comes relatively near, then the mine wakes up in the form of a spider and goes to explode on said enemy...|||Quote:

One could argue that the different classes' gameplay might be modelled off other genres of games.
The 'preparation' aspect of gameplay mentioned at Blizzcon... these Sentries...
It sounds very 'Tower Defense' to me. I haven't played many of this type of game but the visual, spatial kind of gameplay matches up with Diablo quite well, I think.
An arsenal of carefully arranged sentries of different types could imaginably be the primary means of damage, for the right Demon Hunter...|||Meh.
I just want things slowing down the demons, and drawing their immediate attention, as I go Medeival John Woo on them.|||In TF2 the spy class has a sapper which can be used to sap the engineer's sentries.
I don't know if this is the allusion.|||Quote:

I sure hope so. Trapper was my favourite D2 Class.|||Always down for more gadgets. Maybe there'll be a rune that turns everything into batarangs...bat-demon-repellant...|||How about a Trap that Fires bolts at nearby enemies...like a sentry gun?..hmmmm...|||Quote:

lol
It has to be.
In TF2 the engies signature ability is the high caliber machine gun, rocket launching sentries he builds and deploys. It's basically a stationary death machine and fully upgraded will one shot any enemy stupid enough to get close. It's pretty awesome. However, among the classes the best counter is a Spy sapping it which puts it out of commission right quick. This is what he was referring to.

So likely something like that. At the least it will shoot arrows or maybe launch the small grenades we've been seeing. Or any variation of things. Definitely should have some of the most interesting rune affects of the skills.|||why dont they just bring back the old trap assassin!
