Melee Capability for the DH Still a Possibility

GP: Like the Amazon before it, will the Demon Hunter be able to spec for melee?

Jay: We haven’t really decided on that yet! We’ve focused initially away from melee oriented abilities because we’re trying to capture the essence of the class, and the essence isn’t melee.

That being said, on the Wizard, we certainly did a lot of things that were more melee oriented, recognising that there are some players that may want to create a “battle mage,” you know? So there is the capacity to do that for that character. If we find a compelling archetype in our heads then we’ll try to make skills that suit that.

The only skill for the Demon Hunter that we have right now that does kind of fit the bill is called Fan of Knives where she throws an array of knives a very short distance all around her. It’s not a melee skill but it is a very close range skill.

If we can come up with a great idea for a melee build then we’ll definitely do that as long as it doesn’t detract from the core of who she is as a character.

|||Sweet. I knew they would do it, but it doesn't hurt to be sure. I can already see a ranged Barbarian build, WD can really go either way (physical attacks are an afterthought for him it seems), just the Monk left. Though the monk might be the hardest to implement ranged for.|||the monk is someone i see being able to go more caster vs more melee but i dont know, have not followed the monk much at all. as for the melee DH i personally would not do it, well for awhile anyway. as the years go on i will try everything with everyone i am sure. i know they talked about this alot, they said the character had melee skills for awhile but it started to feel more like a melee character instead of a ranged so they dropped them all. will be interesting to see what they end up doing|||http://www.blizzblues.com/us/bashiok...401646825.html

And that's the end of it.|||Cool beans.|||Seems unlikely that the DH will have to much melee capability since that was one of the original directions they were going in - and moved away from.|||just like the Barb she will get a token ability, the barb got throw weapon . I expect some kind of modest melee skill for the hunter. perhaps even some kind of summoned attack like a shadow whip or chain lash|||D2 has huge replay value because there is an enormous amount of variety within each class. I'm not surprised to hear D3 will attempt to remain the same.|||Quote:

Ok, First of all the barb has a ton of possible ranged attacks

Leap Attack

Ground Stomp

Ancient Spear

Seismic Slam

Weapon Throw

Earthquake (maybe, we heard much about it)

Leaping, Slaming, Throwing, the Barb is going to have a lot of ranged and AoE Damage.|||Quote:

They've already attempted it with skill runes.
