The Archer/Rogue/Ranger's Resource will be? - Page 3

[:1]The resource for such a ranged character will be ground-up dreams of the fifth class being a shape-shifter mixed with rainbows and unicorn blood.

---

I see a resource system that rewards stealth and agility by filling when you deal damage and rapidly emptying when you receive damage. It could be named something like concentration, as you need to be focused to properly plant an arrow shot and being struck breaks that focus.|||Hunter's Focus is almost identical to Monk's Spirit, with exception of tiny innate regeneration.|||Quote:

Don't know about WoW Hunters at all, but personally I wouldn't want to see an archer's resource generation in D3 depend on combo attacks in any way, like spirit in a monk.|||It's not so much the combo so much as it's a build and then release. Barb's Fury is just like both of them.|||I think it will be a focus like resource, using the hunter from wow as an example since blizz likes to toss ideas and skills/spells between its core 3 worlds/games.|||i may be the only one who misses the mana for all system. cant wait to try the new D3 systems to see how much i like/hate them|||I'm tired of the airy fairy resources, and I would like to see something quantifiable, down to earth, simple. That's why I went with simple "ammuniton" which, of course, will never happen. No, it has to be rocket science, apparantly, even for a simple man like the Barb.

Another cool thing would be no resources for anyone. Everyone knows in d2 mana became an annoyance and we all ended up bypassing it with Frosties + 2soj, endless potion spamming, then later Insight rw. Now, there will be 5 resource systems to annoy us.|||Shadow.

I know what you mean --- this whole resource idea does have a bit of a feel of an over-elaborate system that's being forced into the game. Maybe it'll work out great, but that remains to be seen.

Yeah, why not just have different types of arrows for archers with different special attacks? And for the barb, will the fury system not really be that much different in practice from mana steal off damage, for example. And if it really is much more involved than that, will D3 combat just become an endless worry about resource and health-globe management? I hope not.

Well in D1 (and traditionally, I would say) mana was for spells and it wasn't needed for bow/melee attacks. Mana got extended to all the classes with skills in D2, and now it's being morphed into "resources." So why not instead instead morph it away again for at least some of the classes? I think it's a very reasonable idea, for better or worse. It won't be that way in D3, of course.

And you have to wonder how the average D3 player, whose intellectual capacity is apparently strained to the breaking point by a weapon switch ("wtf my weapon disapered and my hc char died i'll have to call bliz to rez him"), will make of 5 resources ("oooh thats a prety swurly orange globe should i pick this char or the one with the dreamy green ball?") |||would the game be so bad if you had no resource? just cast skills/spells endlessly with out the need for a basic attack? kinda what d2 was though
